Delayed presentation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia with intrathoracic gastric volvulus.
BACKGROUND Gastric volvulus (GV) occurs when the stomach abnormally rotates around one of its axes and is a rare upper gastrointestinal obstruction. We present an unusual case of intrathoracic GV associated with delayed manifestation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. METHODS A 16-month-old female infant presented with a history of projectile non-bilious vomiting for 2 days and mild hemateme...
متن کاملGiant diaphragmatic hernia with intrathoracic gastric volvulus.
The traditional surgical management of gastric volvulus consists of laparotomy with gastric detorsion and fixation, and diaphragmatic hernia repair. We report here an 83−year−old patient whose gastric volvulus occurred through a giant dia− phragmatic defect (Figure 1), who pre− sented with a 1−week history of abdomi− nal pain, distension, vomiting, and dys− phagia. At surgery, the gastroesophag...
متن کاملCongenital paraesophageal hiatus hernia with gastric volvulus
Paraesophageal hiatus hernia is rarely seen in the neonatal period. An intrathoracic gastric volvulus complicating such a hernia is rarer. The upper gastrointestinal tract contrast study is diagnostic. Rapid diagnosis and treatment is essential. It avoids lethal complications as gastric dilatation, gangrene and perforation, which in turn may lead to cardiopulmonary arrest.
متن کاملGastric volvulus due to diaphragmatic eventration and paraesophageal hernia
Acute gastric volvulus occurs when the stomach or a part of it rotates more than 180 degrees. It is a potentially life-threatening entity and most cases of gastric volvulus occur in association with eventration of left hemidiaphragm or a hiatal hernia. Gastric volvulus is a rare condition and presents with nonspecific epigastric pain and vomiting, and therefore may be missed. Chest x-ray and CT...
متن کاملCongenital Hemidiaphragmatic Agenesis Presenting as Reversible Mesenteroaxial Gastric Volvulus and Diaphragmatic Hernia: A Case Report
A 70-yr-old woman complained of left sided chest pain and non-bilious vomiting for four days after taking a gastric bloating agent for an upper gastrointestinal study. The chest radiography revealed gastric air-fluid levels and bowel loops in the left thoracic cavity. An emergency thoracotomy was performed. The abdominal organs (stomach, spleen, splenic flexure of the colon) were in the left th...
